News:
FTV:R released! Go get some Commander goodies!
We also have now seen the actual cards that are being previewed in the new Elspeth vs Tezzeret Duel Decks. And we get the new keyword “proliferate”. Which says: ”Sup dog. I hear you like counters. So I put some counters in your counter so you can counter your counter.” Or something like that. The other preview card is some Lifey-gainey-fly-y thing, essentially a venerable monk with flying. Not shabby, but not Proliferate.

Also this week, Elspeth gained phasing… but she’s back now, so enjoy!

Prices:
Message board Sol Ring price ranges sell 10-15 buy 5-9, and falling fast  Jace 2.0 has slipped to 73 while Force of will moves to 77.  Some aftermath of last week’s movements has Serra ascendant back down to 3.50, and I expect she’ll go a bit lower once the demand cools a bit.  Ranger of Eos hangs on at just under 5, as he boldly clings to value with the upcoming rotation.  In soon to be obsolete extended news; Tarmogoyf at 23 (sold out)

Whatcha been playin’:
Weekend Tribal: Lifegain humans. T1 Serra Ascendant, T2 Martyr of Sands, gain 12, swing for 6, gain 6. Also ran Proclamation of Rebirth and Ranger of Eos. Fun. Since then experimenting with Noetic Scales and Warped Devotion, and running Masticore tribal.
Erik: “Liches be crazy”; Phylactery Lich + mana ramp artifacts,etc.  Looking forward to Darksteel making a come back.

This Week in Magic
Wow, Tom + Jack + Marcel equals a huge week of magic news and some buttery smooth manly voices.

We have a few new Scars of Mirrodin previews from the Duel Decks: Elspeth vs Tezzeret (which for unknown reasons, Jack doesn’t like) with Contagion Clasp and Kemba’s Skyguard. The Clasp also shows a new keyword, Proliferate, that seems to be quite awesome. We have some details about 2010 State and Provincial championships on October 9th. For unknown reasons, PC World attacks magic players by choosing the Magic World Championships in it’s top dorkiest tournaments and then shows a friggin’ Yu-gi-oh card (was changed at the time of this recording). The second Duels of the Planeswalker expansionpack is coming and will be available on Steam on September 1. We also delve into the newly announced “Event Decks” that will help you compete at your local FNM and will be available as of February 25th, 2010. A new “play or draw” rule will debut for the Top 8 at PT Amsterdam. GP Gothenburg was this past weekend, champion was Kenny Oberg and Conley Woods placed 9th! SCG Open was in Minneapolis the past weekend with Ken Adams winning the Legacy portion and Ian Ellis bringing home the Standard portion. The Great Designer Search 2 was officially announced to start on September 29th and also had avery cool fake logo for Homelands 2. Last, we have the link to the collection of Scars of Mirrodin art.

What Have We Been Playing?
Tom is busy revamping his BG Ooze tribal deck to use those full art Mitotic Slime‘s and will be abusing Death Cloud happily. Jack asks for some help with a Dragonstorm deck and Marcel is playing Terran with a splash of Protoss.

Some sweet, sweet art and some scary names. I flinched when I saw Venser, Darksteel, Etched… etc. Should be amazing times.

Prices:
Serra Ascendant is up to 5, sold out, and rising.  I’m looking to find out the reasons for this, but haven’t seen anything awesome currently.  Jace and Force of will are both hovering around the mid-70′s and Primeval titan is in the low forties… give or take.

United States, Germany, and Great Britain give us National Champions Josh Utter-Leyton, Dennis Johannsen, and Joseph Jackson along with Chris Black and Lu Chao representing Ireland & China

Star City Game had a Standard and Legacy open in Denver, with 12-year old Zac Cole in the top 8!!!

Grab and Go event decks are announced by Wizards for players interested in breaking into FNM.

Conley and Gavin got covered on the mother site at the U.S. Nationals with the new Soul Sisters deck.

Marcel expresses his opinion on the new self-mill deck that had a Top 8 in the U.S. Nationals.

What Have We Been Playing?
Marcel played with Self-Mill &Soul Sisters along with two casual decks he created: a Mono White Artifact deck and a Blue-White Leyline of Anticipation deck.

Pumped yet? Well, you will be. This is Brian, here to bring you the highlights and higher-lights of episode 142 of the Mana Pool.

First off, we go over listener emails. Listen closely, listeners, because while you’re listening you just might get to listen to an email that you sent us (probably after listening to a previously listened to episode). Seriously, we really do appreciate the feedback that we get from you guys. Without you, we’d have about 141 copies of episode 1, and who wants that? Then we launch right into a review of a draft that Chewie, Mike, and myself participated in not too long ago. Actually, it was two different drafts, with two different groups of Mana Pool dorks. Why? You’ll have to find out… by listening!

We then cover an announcement regarding the Scars of Mirrodin Game Day. This hasn’t been covered too extensively elsewhere yet, and we only really found out because Mike is resourceful, but this is 100% accurate. What announcement? Keep listening to find out! If you don’t want to hear it, skip ahead to 1:04:30 in the episode after we announce the spoiler section. After that, Chewie and I go over the first game of Archenemy that we had a chance to play. I know, I know, we’re about two months behind the rest of the world in that area, but it’s totally my fault. Listen to discover how it turned out, especially with Chewie’s multi-deck management skills.

Finally, we discover that we don’t actually have time to go over what we thought would be the main topic for this episode. I’d act surprised, but this has happened before. Instead, we take Dirk through his first Story Circle, a feature that we started way back in episode 117. While that may not sound too long ago- a short 25 episodes if my math is correct- that episode was recorded and put up way back in February. While this isn’t the first time we’ve come back to it, it’s definitely Dirk’s first time, and he approaches it with his own unique style. What style is that? I think you know what to do by now!
