Check out a quick run-through of the basic design, game play, and how it differs slightly from paper magic. Why in the world would they not keep the combat damage step in the game? This is going to hurt Magic in two ways: 1, current players will be pissed off, no one will want to play any legtimate games over XBL, and the game will lose any replay value, and 2, new players will not learn the game correctly and will be frustrated when they try to play paper magic at a store (which I would imagine is one of the main goals of the game. Getting kids to stores, not frustrating them, that is.)

Yeah, quite a few features have been marred or just gotten rid of. Idk if Tom mentioned it but you also get 1 free mulligan (very unrealistic). And I heard from guys who played it at worlds that “it was pretty” but they weren’t impressed.
Also, if you just watch the trailer and see 30 seconds of cards being played on screen and when they start making stuff like: “Attack. Block. Win.” their slogan…kinda lame.

While I agree with Chris (IT will not help in “acquisition” of new players and will confuse and frustrate many), I have no problem with differences in game play. I think it’s unrealistic for every little detail of the game to be exactly as it is in cardboard. I believe WotC did this as to not take away from MTGO. Think about it, if you sell an exact version of MTGO for a flat fee for XBox and PC, why would people pay for digital cardboard crack by the pack? In that way, it makes sense in a business way … kind of … I’m sure I’ll buy it (as long as they still release it for PC). If it comes out XBox only, forget it.

I’d say this is a pretty good way to get some new players into the game. It sucks that they take out the damage on the stack step, but as players move from this game into paper magic, it won’t be too hard to incorporate that aspect of the game into their games from then on. Not too bad, also looks nice.

I am annoyed with them dropping damage on the stack. AS it is the game has a limited card set, no booster/draft and limited deck building.
WotC is too tied up in its pay-per-card (own the digital card) model. They’d get significantly more play out of MTGO if they just had a pay-per-month (rent the digital card) model.
Sadly, I’ll probably end up buying the game because I really don’t like the MTGO model at all — and the original Magic PC game is just waay old.

You’re not allowed to change your deck? So basically, every off-color card you win is basically useless and every time you want to try a new idea on a whim, you can start a new game.
I guess I’m not unhappy I don’t have an XBox, then.
This seems like a really dumb “feature”. Or did I miss something?

You can swap a certain number of cards in or out of your deck and as you defeat planeswalkers you unlock thier decks so as you win more you will have different color options later.

It would be great if MODO looked this good…

This game is awesome. it could use a couple custimization upgrades but you can still get new decks and such which improve your core cards. I havent played magic since early high school and now im officiall nerded out on this game. Ive stayed up till like 8am playing this freakin game multiple times already. Its helping me be quite an insomniac lately. I feel like a nerd sometimes, but F it… its fun.
