Talking about the new book by Patrick Chapin really makes me nostalgic. Back in 1996 I bought a book about MTG:Type 2 by several people, though I only remember Brian Weissman as co-author. Anyway, it contained really basic knowledge like why 4-ofs are good and all the decklist examples demonstrated this aspect quite clearly. It also contained a text spoiler of all the Type 2 cards at its time sorted by color. This feat was extremely useful and enabled me to not just randomly mix cards that fit the color but actually search for cards that I deemed useful. Fastforward 13 years and the progress made is just mindblowing.
By the way, when I just read through my comment I felt like an old man for a second…then I remembered I’m 23. Phew.
Great interview. Thank you!
Great advice Patrick.
After listening to this cast I subscribed to the wall-street journal! LOL.
Excellent interview. Chapin definitely reinforced my perception of him that I’d gleaned from his articles. You can tell someone is enthusiastic about something in the way they talk about it; I’d love to just pick that guy’s brain about MTG for hours. He seems to appeal to my tastes as a player and a deck designer.
Thanks for putting this interview up. Much appreciated.
Coolage. I predict something like four-of’s of the elf, ,the blast and the pulse in chapin’s honolulu deck.
