Episode 9a-g: Ramping Up to Bestial Menace
In this episode, we go over lots of different topics, most of which are in
Section A. The other sections are each broken down by color as we discuss
everything that had been spoiled at the time of the recording. (Monday,
January 18th). Our friend Tim joins us on a rare weekday off for him. This
one is a little epic.

Oh please, if 9 out of the top 16 decks are Jund, how is it not the d0minant best deck?
Yeah, LSV won with W/U/R and Coimbra won with Naya but that doesn’t neccessarily mean either deck archetype is superior, there are still the players piloting the deck as well as subtle card choices. If decks can consistently play maindeck color hosers like Flashfreeze, you have to see that the format is very lopsided and unhealthy.
Yeah… I agree with Mellowcow. If the format is seeing cards like Flashfreeze being played maindeck… the format isn’t healthy.
That’s why Vampires is good right now. It’s good against Naya, Jund, and UWr control.
But until people start maindecking Undead Slayer, I’ll continue to play Vampires.
Thanks guys, for some reason I was having trouble articulating my point on the podcast.
Whether people want to say it’s the “best” deck or not (I actually have trouble with the entire concept of a best deck, since there are other factors in every game beyond the 75 cards), it’s a really GOOD deck that is just so widespread in Standard that the format has lost its excitement. That’s my problem with it. I like variety, I enjoy playing against different kinds of strategies. I don’t think it’s easy, but I think it is WotC’s responsibility to provide us with a healthy, balanced metagame, where no deck is good enough that 1 out of every 3 people think it’s the best deck to play in a tournament.
As always, thanks for listening, and we appreciate your feedback!
