MTG Radio #27 – I Prefer Pecan

March 1, 2010 MTG Radio 8 Comments

Our Special Guest:

MTG Colorpie is joining us on the cast this week! That’s right, the blogger in charge of, well, MTG Colorpie and 99edhproblems let’s his voice be heard, give him a warm welcome!

Armada Games EDH League:

The winning deck was Kresh, and he won a Scalding Tarn from us (or, Tom) over here at MTG Radio. So this is a shout out to all of the listeners from the Armada Games area.

Slew of Tournaments:

Grand Prix Madrid, the Channelfireball 5k, and the Starcity 5k all took place this weekend. At both Channelfireball and Starcity’s 5k Jund won. In GP Madrid however, Jund did not win! But that’s mainly because the GP was legacy, and the largest legacy event, ever. The top 8 decklists look varied and pretty incredible.

Some cards mentioned: Winding Canyon, Identity Crisis,  Hull Breach, Artifact Mutation, Aura Mutation, Mana Reflection, Tainted Pack, Aura Shards, Stuffy Doll, Volcanic Hellion, Luminarch Ascension and many more!

Hey Guys, fun podcast this week! Loved the hidden gems segment. Just to keep you guys up to speed “Summon Elder Dragon Podcast,” discussed Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder at length a couple weeks ago. You should give it a listen, good times. And yes, the devour mechanic is absolutely nutballs with Endrek in play.

  4. Ben says:

I would definitely watch if you guys did a webcam magic game. A way to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGv5_akUxUI

If you guys are in need of a segment. One thing hard for newer to the format is finding alternatives in their colors.

For instance, I’m having a hard time finding ways to recur or protect enchantments (like Grave Pact) with my R/B Lyzolda deck. Seems like once its dead, there is no way getting it back. The only card I’ve found is Yag’s Will and I’m wondering if there are alternatives.

Other less extreme examples are finding card draw in non-blue colors, removal in green, etc. It’s an interesting take on going over staples because it doesn’t focus on what the best cards are in a color but overcoming weaknesses in your deck and making it stronger.

Anyways keep up the good work guys.

We already recorded this cast, literally just now, and hadn’t seen this until we finished recording but that is a fantastic idea and we will try to use it/talk about it on the next cast (which would be episode 29)

  7. Isaac says:

  8. Cramble says:
