The prerelease cards being, how to say, not money was probably deliberate on Wotc’s part.
If some (or even worse; one) of the prerelease cards turned out to be competitively viable, or worth a lot of money on the secondary market, there would be a not insignificant amount of players who favored one particular guild in prerleases, not because they wanted to play with that guild, but because they want to the money.
Wotc doesn’t want that, they want to know people’s preferences for guilds based on their popularity and preferences for playstyles, not which guild has the best promo.
