Finally something worth listening to while killing time!
I agree pretty much agree with your discussion on the FTV. Every single card should’ve had alternate art.
I really think that the perfect legends fall into a spectrum between playability, popularity, and age.
- Ulamog is a success because he is played in everything.
- Captain Sisay works because she is popular but has an old and ugly border.
Even though I have no interest in the general, Phelddagrif probably would’ve turned some heads in a niche general slot.
Also, any general with heavy errata should’ve deserved a shot as well. Anything printed in the last few years is a horrible idea.
Good to see Jay back.
So Ulamog is a success, but anything from the last few years is a horrible idea? Also, Phelddagrif, like many legends, is on the reserved list. And finally, I prefer the old border.
Great episode.
By the way, Jeebus’ “Tell it like it is, with no punches held” attitude trumps Smi77y’s “Brown-nose the pros, don’t talk shit about anybody” attitude every fucking day of the week.
I can see where he’s coming from, seeing how he has an M:tG site and needs/wants pro’s approval and co-operation, but his attitude of “If you talk shit about anybody, you’re a hater” is extremely fucking annoying. Some shit-talking is warranted. And for the record, Chapin WAS being a dick on that episode of the Eh Team.
I have got to say, this has become the best podcast available. I cannot get enough of ya’ll. I had been a fan of Mana Screwed, and I love the Eh Team, but this cast just trumps both of those in every way. I’m not a super serious magic player, I just like to have fun with it, and the hilarity on this show is exactly what i was looking for. You guys have such great banter, and the jokes just never stop. I love it! I really hope the angelic destiny guy writes in again for next episode, i was crying at work from laughing so hard. Great job guys, keep it up!
you guys are assholes. which I find hilarious. kind of like South Park? being an asshole on the radio is entertainment. keep doing it. xD
my two bits on From the Vault– it should have been about the biggest, splashiest Legends they could think of. 15 head turners.
Progenitus is ok, even though he’s Alaran. He’s 5 colors, and he kicks ass.
Emrakul is apparently banned. If Jace is any proof, banned cards are actually pretty fun to own.
Alternate Art Emrakul would have been appreciated, but at least they put in an Eldrazi.
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon should have been in. Hear me out– we want this to appeal to Commander folks,
and we want this to appeal to From the Vault fans that like old history stuff. Skithyrix is ‘new’, but PHYREXIA
is old. Very old. Phyrexia should ABSOLUTELY have had a represent, and I think Skithyrix would have been
more well-recieved than Tsabo Tavoc. Maybe. I could be wrong about that, but I stand that, if not Skittles, then some great lord of
of Phyrexian should have shown up. Maybe Greven? Wasn’t he Gerrard’s archenemy or something?
Captain Sisay, no complaints- she’s cool, but not quite big enough to me to deserve Alt. Art. The new frame is enough, and if you surround her
with 14 cards that actually deserve to be in the set, she looks fine. The same reason we can’t have 15 new arts is the same reason we can’t have Zhiaou Dun the One Eyed.
Ravnica Block should have gotten a represent. That’s the biggest oversight. like, 20 legends and none of them made it? wtf. considering Ravnica is agreed to be one of the most
awesome blocks friggin ever, that’s a huge let down. I am dissappoint. [sic]
Im not personally a fan of Kiki Jiki, but he’s getting less complaints than just about anybody else.
I guess he’s an ok represent for Kami.
instead of overloading the set with so many Alarans, they could have used those spaces to showcase ‘what was the absolute coolest and most epic in the last 5 years’ in just a few cards—
AND STILL have enough room to have over half a dozen super great old Legendary things–
An Elder Dragon. Come on. If you can’t imagine an Elder Dragon fitting in a set like this, I don’t know what to say. EDH comes from the Elder Dragon Legends. Which is now Commander.
Nicol Bolas is not the only useful one.
Vaevictis Asmadi with new alternate art would have been wildly more popular than Kresh. By a rather huge margin.
Sun Quan and Cao-Cao I like, because of their significance to the Portal3Kingdoms story. They may not be the most impressive from that series, but they’re cool enough for FTV just for being P3K.
Teferi stays. They wasted their best preview on the first. Time Spiral Block is like From the Vault: Magic. Teferi’s inclusion tricked me into thinking they knew what they were doing.
Apparently he’s just a really good general, which is probably the only reason they accidentally included the perfect posterboy for a set called ‘FTV: Legends’
I’ve named 10 cards, and that leaves a whole 5 more slots, a third of the set, for you to think of other cards to put in it if you think I’ve missed sometihng big. I think I’ve identified, if not the best specific choices, some important roles that the set probably should have paid more attention to.
If they’d wanted to include non-creature Legendaries, then hands down ‘That Which Was Taken’ and ‘Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth’ HAVE to make it. They would fit ridiculously well.
EDIT: errr….make that my 200 bits.
sorry I kinda got carried away there.
