It was truly painful listening to you guys talk about planeswalker points when you clearly have no clue what you’re talking about.
(1) Lifetime totals are completely meaningless, it doesn’t matter if your friend billy bob has gone to every FNM and he’s ranked 19th, that’s a lifetime rating and it doesn’t mean jack.
(2) You can still have a measuring stick against other players like you did with ELO except it’s going to be “what’s your total for this last season?”. That isn’t going to be made or broken by appearance points because stuff like FNM, PTQ’s, and GP’s have such a high multiplier that actually doing well at these events is going to far and away outclass people who just go to every random store event 24/7/365. Also those random store events that you guys were talking about setting up will only have a multiplier of x1, so have fun grinding those points.
(3) Your talk about someone winning a pro tour vs someone going 7-7 at 2 is completely wrong. (A) they aren’t taking away the pro player club, just restructuring it and we don’t even know how yet and (B) they have already said there is a point bonus for making top 8 and iirc making the finals/winning, so there is going to be no possible way someone who went 7-7 at 2 pro tours is going to out point someone who won one.
(4) There is no way to have a point system that doesn’t put some people on the short end of the stick. They aren’t sticking it to people who can’t play a lot. They are rewarding people who play more magic. The community will grow, stores will make more money, magic will get bigger, and good things will happen. Are those 2 things unfortunately opposite sides of a similar coin? Perhaps. However the people that can’t play a lot of magic aren’t the guys who were worrying about qualifying for anything on rating anyways because they more than likely weren’t getting byes to GP’s or PT invites based on rating, and if they were now they actually have to put forth some effort instead of ride the wave of doing really well at 1 GP or getting top 100 at a pro tour.
If you really want to focus on potential hax to this system start looking at which stores hold their FNM at which times of the day on friday. Where I live there is a store about 10 minutes away from my work that starts it’s FNM at 3pm sharp on friday and ends at or around 6pm. There are then 2 places within 5-10 minute drive from there that start their FNM at 6pm and 6:30pm respectively. If I wanted to, and without much effort, I could hit up 2 FNM’s every week for that sweet sweet 3x multiplier and to add to my Competitive FNM rating.
You guys should really fact check your shit before you rant ad nauseam about shit you have no idea about. Take a minute, breath, and pull your heads out of each others asses. Especially Dr Jebus.
<3,
Drew
I don’t even have to listen to the podcast to cringe. Jayboosh, don’t tarnish what you have with The Eh Team. This shit is painful.
