History of MTGCast
Yup, Monday Night Magic is joining MTGSalvation. What is the history of rather strange fellows? First, Dom starts MTGCast on 3/14/06. People start commenting and Dom decides to add a co-host with Tom answering the call. The first episode with Tom or ‘Pitimp’ is on 5/2/2006. The phenomenon of PTTT (Pro Tour Top Trumps) quickly begins and Tom quickly falls behind. Gavin or ‘Lesurgo’ joins in the end of May to bring the expert opinion to the show and starts his own segment, ‘Decks with Les’. And MTGCast blossoms into a network with a wide variety of shows. Where will our heroes go next? Oh, and remember kids, Dom is British with a capital UK.

Magic News
Selecting 10th Edition continues on at magicthegathering.com. Loxodon Warhammer is in and this week’s vote is the battle of the R: Kird Ape vs. Mogg Fanatic. Check it out at:

No gold cards in 10th Edition? Article on magicthegathering.com has the comments of: “It shows off in a simple way ‘multicolor’. Since we do not include gold cards in the base set, it is nice to have a card that can show new players ‘gold’ cards without actually being gold.”

Coldsnap is all up with the MTGO Beta right now! And this caused us to lose Gavin for a while mid-week to wonders of free drafts.

Saturday School has been replaced by Magic Academy on magicthegathering.com for the goal of teaching beginning players the more advanced topics and techniques of Magic.

Time Spiral Booster and Precon images sneak peeks! Mentioned briefly last week, but still cool. Also, the Time Spiral novel cover is up and looks fantastic. Check out the MTGSalvation forum threads at:

Fact Or Fiction
Possible artwork for Kamahl in the TS cycle was shown on the MTGSalvation forums. Fact or Fiction? Make the call after you see the artwork at: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=45114

And even more exciting (and possibly scandalous) is the Rumor Mill listing some potential playtest cards from TS. Make the call, Fact or Fiction? http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=45791

Ask The Fountain of All Knowledge
Gavin fields a question from Gerald about the Boros Swiftblade, and a question from James Tucker about Dark Depths. Will Gavin successfully answer these hard-hitting questions?

MTGCast News
Opinions abound on the CS! TRB from the MTGCast forum wants to know some opinions on the new set and our favorite cards from the crew of the mighty ship, MTGCast. Tom likes Into the North, Dom with Lightning Serpent, Gavin with Scrying Sheets.

Favorite Magic mechanics, the crew is stewing on this for the week and will answer in the next episode (*hint* Post your opinion in the forum). And we answer a listener question about how high to pick snow-covered lands in CS/CS/CS booster draft.

Combo Of the Week
This is the last week of CS-inspired combos and we will be starting next week with Guild-inspired combos. First guild on the block - Selesnya

Tom: Tamanoa + Searing Meditation
Dom: Ghostway + Sunscour
Gavin: Simian Brawler + Life from the Loam

Pro-Tour Top Trumps!

    Sealed Deck
    • 2+ players
    • Each player needs 1 Tournament pack and 3 booster packs
    • Players simply open their tournament packs and the cards from three additional booster packs and build a deck from the cards they opened. Guidelines require a minimum deck size of 40 cards and allow players to add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their card pools as they like.

    Booster Draft
    • 4-8 players
    • Each player needs 3 booster packs
    • At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can't see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted. Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again.
Once all the packs have been drafted, players build decks from the cards they selected, adding as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their decks as they like. Each deck must have at least 40 cards.
    Tribal Wars
    • One-third of every deck must be of a single creature type (e.g. "Merfolk" or "Beast")
    • Each deck must contain at least 60 cards, and players may build decks using Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
    • You can use creatures of other creature types, but they do not count towards the "1/3 of single creature type" rule.

    Singleton
    • aka "Highlander"
    • No two cards in a player's deck can share a name unless they're basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests). Players can use Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
