Posted on 05 May 2008 by Tommy

We are brought to you by MTGMintCard.com and TrollAndToad.com!

This Week in Magic
Check out the new image of the Eventide booster box. Kamiel Cornelissen wins GP Brussels. Check out the cool new alternate art foil promo Char to be given at Origins this year! Check out gleemax.com and it’s collection of online games that are currently free to play (like Axis & Allies, Robo Rally).

Derek gives a great discussion about some of the changes to Standard from Shadowmoor and perhaps some new and upcoming decks to keep an eye out for in the near future.

User Corner
Tom gets a very cool email from an Australian listener working and living in China and gives me a heads-up on Chaos Magic!

MTGCast News
We now have a phone number where you can leave voice-mail for us and the show! You can call in with any questions, news items, hints, tricks, combos, or anything! The phone number is 469-277-2278, so that’s 469-277-CAST! I am giving a nice Foil DCI promo Powder Keg to a random voice mail caller for the upcoming episode! Also check out a nice picture of Gavin’s bird, Rocket. Tom also types in the ridiculously long URL at the end of the Shadowmoor fat pack booklet.

Emails, Comments and COMMENT CONTEST!
The winner this week of the signed Cephalid Constable, Rackling and Unfulfilled Desires is … Suwabara!

Bonus prize of an Italian Legends Ramirez DePietro to Lotus for the disturbing picture of a Derek/Tom fusion animal.

This is a new weekly contest where I announce a question on the podcast, you post a response (or story) on the MTGSalvation forum for replies to the episode and you can win a card hand-selected from Tom’s large collection (and winner is announced on the next week’s show). Also, if there are 100+ comments in one week on an episode, Tom will give away a Mana Crypt to a randomly-selected entry!

This week’s question is: Favorite Shadowmoor flavor text, best release tourney experience, or worst Shadowmoor card!
Prize of the week: Foil Timeshifted Squire!

Combo of the Week
Derek : Glittering Wish + most cards in Shadowmoor
Tom : Deep-Slumber Titan + Pyrohemia + Power of Fire

    Sealed Deck
    • 2+ players
    • Each player needs 1 Tournament pack and 3 booster packs
    • Players simply open their tournament packs and the cards from three additional booster packs and build a deck from the cards they opened. Guidelines require a minimum deck size of 40 cards and allow players to add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their card pools as they like.

    Booster Draft
    • 4-8 players
    • Each player needs 3 booster packs
    • At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can't see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted. Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again.
Once all the packs have been drafted, players build decks from the cards they selected, adding as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their decks as they like. Each deck must have at least 40 cards.
    Tribal Wars
    • One-third of every deck must be of a single creature type (e.g. "Merfolk" or "Beast")
    • Each deck must contain at least 60 cards, and players may build decks using Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
    • You can use creatures of other creature types, but they do not count towards the "1/3 of single creature type" rule.

    Singleton
    • aka "Highlander"
    • No two cards in a player's deck can share a name unless they're basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests). Players can use Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
