Hanging Out At the Grand Prix Denver

Sorry for the delay on part 3. This one is the end of GP Denver. Alex Lee joins us for about 25 minutes. The bus gets turbo charged for the next 1 hour 50 mins after that as Chapin, Kibler, Black and the winner of the Grand Prix, Gerry Thompson, take control and talk about everything from the GP to poker to stories of old school magic players. We thank all of our guests for having a good time on the cast with us and all of you for listening. Normal Magic School Bus glory will continue this weekend.

    Hey guys,

Two hours is a bit on the long side. Any chance that you could re-post this in two one-hour(-ish) segments?

    Many thanks

    Phil

  3. Barbarian Says:

Someone stealing your play sets of power nine? holy shit, id kill someone lol. Well awesome cast mates. Been listening since the 12th cast. Great cast!

  4. Christopher E. Otwell Says:

Sorry, but considering that it’s been downloaded on itunes already by several hundred people, I don’t feel inclined to force new downloads of the same material if I can help it. If you want to break it up yourself, you can do so with Audacity.

  5. Will Shanks Says:

Can we get a left-to-right roll call for that picture?

Also, yes, I am snickering at Phil’s request.

  6. Will Shanks Says:

PS — awesome cast all around. Thanks for all the work that you guys put into the set-up and post-production!

Front: Brian Kibler, Gerry Thompson, Patrick Chapin.

    Back: Steve Sadin, {Someone that I don’t know}, Sam Black, and {Someone else that I don’t know}

    … Hope that is helpful.

Phil, I apologize. I thought I would be able to break it up, but that last segment with all the guys in that picture is 1hr 45min alone…and that’s after I edited it. If you contact me on the Yahoo IM at themagicschoolbus2k8, I will see if there is something I can do for you.

That picture, to help out Chris’ naming, that person giving Kibler the shocker is Kyle Goodman. Chapin and Thompson talk about him a little and he spoke on the cast asking some questions.

Thank you all for listening and I hope we get to do something like this again in the future

Unless you’re running a 14.4 modem, why do you care? Does it take too long to download? Does it cause you to have to delete some Hootie and the Blowfish mp3’s off your precious mp3 player? I have probably one of the smalles ipods around, (2GB) and I can download, sync and play every single of their podcasts with no problem. I don’t know why all the constant whining about file sizes. Just quit bugging these guys about chopping down their files. They go out of their way to give you this entertaining free service and all you can do is bitch about it. Do you go eat over at friends houses and then cry when they don’t cut your food up into tiny, bite-sized pieces for you? Come on! Deal with it buddy!

OK, a Caption has now been added.

    Sealed Deck
    • 2+ players
    • Each player needs 1 Tournament pack and 3 booster packs
    • Players simply open their tournament packs and the cards from three additional booster packs and build a deck from the cards they opened. Guidelines require a minimum deck size of 40 cards and allow players to add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their card pools as they like.

    Booster Draft
    • 4-8 players
    • Each player needs 3 booster packs
    • At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can't see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted. Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again.
Once all the packs have been drafted, players build decks from the cards they selected, adding as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their decks as they like. Each deck must have at least 40 cards.
    Tribal Wars
    • One-third of every deck must be of a single creature type (e.g. "Merfolk" or "Beast")
    • Each deck must contain at least 60 cards, and players may build decks using Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
    • You can use creatures of other creature types, but they do not count towards the "1/3 of single creature type" rule.

    Singleton
    • aka "Highlander"
    • No two cards in a player's deck can share a name unless they're basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests). Players can use Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
