#12 - 2008 July 13 - The Magic School Bus #12 (1 of 2) - James Cagle and Robert Schiermeyer - MSB Episode 12 - Part 1 of the Epic 2 Part Podcast

The Magic School Bus episode 12 is rated PG-13 for adult language, Adult discussion and psycological nudity.

This installment of The Magic School Bus, we are live from the Crown Plaza, site of the Prelease and a GPT and the future site of Grand Prix Denver.

We have many guests on the show this week, and everyone was pretty tired from over 12 hours of Magic. Though one of the more racy episodes we have ever had, we had a lot of fun in a very casual atmosphere.

We talk about block with almost up to the minute match results. We also enjoy a return from Matt Reynolds (the reason for the PG-13 rating) and a visit from many other guests.

- Alex Lee - roommate and teacher of the great Paul Cheon

- Alex Smith - 2 time Colorado State Champ and Worlds Competitor

- Ryan Walters - Random guy who playtests with us

- Nick Bonham - Winner of Colorado Regionals and host of the “Djinn’s Playground” Podcast

- Chris Otwell - Host of the “Road Warrior Otwell.” Podcast

- A few others that I am sure are important.

NOTE: This is a 2 part PodCast. Please download and listen to both parts.

After some minor technical difficulties, this posting was fixed and resubmitted. Hopefully, it’s working right now…

I have to say I love the podcast. I haven’t really played in the last 5+ years or so and you guys always remind me of what was great about the game. Kudos.

  3. Jess Says:

Great podcast - real shame about the racism though. I was quite offended by the implications that Mexicans only take out garbage. Alex Lee is quite simply an idiot.

  4. Conley Says:

While I agree that this show was a bit more edgy than most of the others, one has to take a few things into account. A- There is a disclaimer, so we all knew going in that things would be different. B- Some of the people on this particular cast have never done one before, and as it was live, in a familiar setting, I am sure that they just slipped into casual mode and went about as if there were no podcaster. Thus, I believe I can vouch for the show when I say I am sorry if anyone was offended, and that no offense was intended by anyone on the cast, and most of the racier jokes were simply intended as such, jokes. I am sure this will be cut down in future casts, on sight or not.

I love how I managed to get called an idiot on my very first appearance on the School Bus. Based on that alone I’d have to say it was a success. Just to clear things up, the comments expressed by me are mine only and not those of the show, they should not be held accountable. Anyway, thanks so much Rob and Cagle for having me on and great podcast! Hopefully the next time I’m on I’ll have Paul on and we can actually talk Magic.

Dispite the possibly “racist” comments , now a days if we just look to someone over our shoulder we are automaticaly racist. By the way i think that who hears to this show already understood that these guys are kind of like us (portuguese) don’t really worry about anything when in a familiar environment.
    So… Great great cast!

Kudos to all the drunk bastards and kudos to the allmighty djinn (you should post more often!)

  7. Jensen Says:

Definitely the best cast so far. I suppose some people can take offense but it is what it is. How about doing the .08 episode AT GP Denver? Anyways keep it up guys.

    Sealed Deck
    • 2+ players
    • Each player needs 1 Tournament pack and 3 booster packs
    • Players simply open their tournament packs and the cards from three additional booster packs and build a deck from the cards they opened. Guidelines require a minimum deck size of 40 cards and allow players to add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their card pools as they like.

    Booster Draft
    • 4-8 players
    • Each player needs 3 booster packs
    • At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can't see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted. Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again.
Once all the packs have been drafted, players build decks from the cards they selected, adding as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their decks as they like. Each deck must have at least 40 cards.
    Tribal Wars
    • One-third of every deck must be of a single creature type (e.g. "Merfolk" or "Beast")
    • Each deck must contain at least 60 cards, and players may build decks using Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
    • You can use creatures of other creature types, but they do not count towards the "1/3 of single creature type" rule.

    Singleton
    • aka "Highlander"
    • No two cards in a player's deck can share a name unless they're basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests). Players can use Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
