  1. Asad Says:

    Hey guys, great cast.

FYI, I played Toast at states and went 3-3 and dropped. Lost to mono-red, the mirror and a terrible Faeries pilot. Esperlark just seems fun, I played next to it all day.

I’ve played a lot of Shards Sealed recently online so I think I’m prepared for this weekend’s PTQ. I haven’t drafted as much though. I really like Blister Beetle :). Where is it on your list of mono-colored two drops? Visionary and Cylian Elf are good. Dragon Fodder is good if you’re in the Devour Archetype. Same thing with the artifact banneret if you’re in Esper.

As far as being a fan, I like James and Rob too :p. But the poker/magic idea seems good, but my poker friends don’t play magic :(. I’m a really good omaha player though.

You guys should do more play by play analysis on the show. I remember earlier in the year you were talking about Jeremiah Wilson vs. Nick Bonham. Stuff like that and more Rob being terrible with Demigod in his hand would be great.

    Thanks.

  2. Anthony (Planeswalk with the Proffessors) Says:

“tralala”…wow this podcast is emotionally scarring… great podcast guys!
-14 year old that started listening to your podcast at episode#2, did not know of the horrors, but is now addicted…

  3. Allan in Kansas City Says:

Glad that I can get my Husker updates from this cast!!!

For the record, I’ll say I’m a James fan. Do you think that an Esper/Scourglass deck has any validity in standard? I think one of the SCG guys posted some version of this and even though I haven’t been to a Standard tourney for a while I like the Esper stuff a lot, so I want to know what you guys think of this as a possible strategy.

  4. matt Says:

rob great ha dont make me laugh hes a red playing ubernoob . ow my sealled was so bad even though i got a flaimblast dragon

  5. Conley Says:

Damnit Allan! A documented James fan was supposed to be a myth.

  6. Allan in Kansas City Says:

Lo Siento, is it possible to delete or edit the post?

  7. Christopher E. Otwell Says:

Once the post has been accepted by 1 of the 2 Moderators, then it gets published on here. Once published, it can only be deleted by the 2 of us, and not by anyone else.

  8. Conley Says:

I just noticed this, but why are this and the last cast sharing a title>? lol

  9. Christopher E. Otwell Says:

    Oops… Fixed.

  10. Conley Says:

    Lol nice!

  11. DOTS Says:

Just to let you guys know, all the meta tags on your mp3 files show up as Micheal Jackson’s Blood on the dance floor. Not a big deal, but jsut thought you guys should know

  12. James Says:

    MJ is just that awesome.

  13. Victor Says:

“Learn it up Newbs! Next Round.”

I was driving with a coworker listening to my iPod when Conley screamed that out. I got a weird look when I started laughing.

  14. matt Says:

Rob is my favorite host. James and Conley needs to go for a year not playing blue or control. that will teach them the power of aggro. As for guests i like alex lee better then reynolds with conley coming in last. reynolds is just weird and conley plays control so he cant be good

  15. Asad Says:

I think you need integrate Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch into the show somehow…

  16. The Bad Guy Says:

Loving the cast as usual guys. I was quite surprised to hear my voicemail re-aired and then commented on once again. That puppy is getting some serious play. Props on all the solid commentary and hilarious off-topic diversions; strippers and beer indeed gentlemen. You should definitely make up that South Park related avatar and put all your heads on it. Almost pissed my pants at the “Learn it up Newbs!” comment, along with several others made by Conley.

  17. The Bad Guy Says:

Oops, almost forgot to mention that Rob is terrible. His verbal contributions make me think my time would be better spent running off and touching my tra-la-la than listening to his mind-numbingly shitty commentary. Much love!

  18. Jensen Says:

Here’s a great avatar for MSB:

I couldn’t put Rob in it because we never get a description of Rob, other than that he eats out of the garbage. It’s all good, James pretty much pilots the bus solo and everyone else is just along for the ride. As much as I do think Reynolds is funny, as for hosts I have to vote for Cagle.

So on Otwell’s cast, around the 11:50 mark he talks about James registering a deck and then someone asks how many times they think he’ll get caught cheating. Sounds like there’s a story behind it. What’s up with that? lol

  19. James Says:

that southpark thing is f-ing amazing. Honestly, Rob is very similar. Dark Brown Hair, a little flatter than that. My hair is styled, his is more combed. You got the suit right for me…Rob is more of a casual aspect of shorts or jeans and a t shirt. He should have the beer…I should have a martini like drink….and throw a stripper up on me.

  20. Matt Says:

I’m not sure who my favorite host is. Definitely not Reynolds, that guy is an ass-hat. Both Rob and Cagle are too politically liberal for me to take seriously and all Conley wants to do is talk about magic.

  21. Matt Says:

HOLY SHIT PODCAST FROM CASA BONITA!!!!

  22. Conley Says:

OH…I see what you did there^

  23. Roodypoo Says:

Here is a Bad Beat. My friend at GP atlanta had a girl praying to God outloud to let her win. Then he drew 7 lands in a row and lost the round.

  24. Jensen Says:

Here’s my second go at it. There aren’t much options for fixing up hair and I’m kind of shooting in the dark here.

    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/9/18/2103339/Schoolbus.bmp

    Great cast guys as always.

  25. VAPOR Says:

Sooo i was looking at the DCI ratings page, and James Cagle has a limited Rating of 1682? What do you draft my friend? Apperantly You should start drafting Rob Schermyer[SIC] poop or something man. Rob is god, James is alright. Conley has good metaphors. Casa Bonita has terribad food man, Cagle is right, you dont go for food, you go for the entertainment. Hell, there is better mexican resturants on Federal.

  26. James Says:

Oh man, Jensen…so close. The hair you had for me the first time was almost balls on accurate. The hair you have for me in the second one is not bad for Rob…Make stripper blond and that is GG.

  27. Conley Says:

Hey Chris, do you know where episode 27 went? When you click on MSB it isn’t listed among the past shows.

Also Jensen..for you having not seen either of these 2, I have to say that is absolutely incredible lol

  28. Christopher E. Otwell Says:

What do you mean, Conley? I see it just fine. You might want to look again…

  29. Christopher E. Otwell Says:

BTW: Conley, I’m a fan of yours as well. Much more so than Rob or Matt.

  30. Conley Says:

Alright I see it now. and thanks lol.. kinda weird to hear that from someone I know but I’ll take it.

Good luck with finding your groove again.

  31. Asad Says:

I think Jensen should get a prize for his work :).

  32. Daniel Says:

Few quick things. First off, great podcast as always. I am now hooked and can easily declare you guys the best podcast on MtGcast (with 2nd going to EoT). Also, for the record, I’m a Conley fan but Rob is a close 2nd. Finally, I’m glad Rob understood what I meant about Goblin Deathraiders. By no means am I saying that the card is in anyway, “unplayable” or even “bad”. I’m merely saying that it is overhyped in Sealed (obviously not draft because you should usually be able to draft the removal to support it) but in Sealed, it’s mediocre to good. Not amazing. Of course, this is partially biased because of the bad beats I’ve taken while using it during the release events on MTGO.

Oh yea, if possible could you guys do a segment on the upcoming Extended season? If not though, Limited information is always good ^^.

    Sealed Deck
    • 2+ players
    • Each player needs 1 Tournament pack and 3 booster packs
    • Players simply open their tournament packs and the cards from three additional booster packs and build a deck from the cards they opened. Guidelines require a minimum deck size of 40 cards and allow players to add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their card pools as they like.

    Booster Draft
    • 4-8 players
    • Each player needs 3 booster packs
    • At the start of a Booster Draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks the card he or she wants from it. (You can't see the cards that the other players draft.) Then each player passes the rest of the pack to his or her left. You pick up the pack that was passed to you, select a card, and pass the rest to your left. This process continues until all the cards have been drafted. Next, each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you open the third pack and pass to the left again.
Once all the packs have been drafted, players build decks from the cards they selected, adding as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to their decks as they like. Each deck must have at least 40 cards.
    Tribal Wars
    • One-third of every deck must be of a single creature type (e.g. "Merfolk" or "Beast")
    • Each deck must contain at least 60 cards, and players may build decks using Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
    • You can use creatures of other creature types, but they do not count towards the "1/3 of single creature type" rule.

    Singleton
    • aka "Highlander"
    • No two cards in a player's deck can share a name unless they're basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests). Players can use Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage deckbuilding rules.
